Let's stop pretending that being good at money means you need to be good at math. Instead, let's listen to our body and our mind.
Hi, I'm Alyssa Davies
You know when you’re driving home from work in rush hour, and there is that one person who all of a sudden decides they need to get over 3 lanes of traffic? The person who will stop all vehicles behind and in front just so that they can exit at the next intersection? Most of us think we “have” to take a certain exit to get where we need to go. Did you know that a lot of people only know of one way to get to their house? Their own house!
Why are we so afraid to miss that exit?
Our fears often define the way we live our lives each and every day. They affect our mentality, our motivation, and our will to take risks. But what if we let those fears play their role?
That’s right. I’m telling you to allow yourself to face your fears (small ones of course), so that the larger ones don’t seem as daunting.
Every once in a while, I purposely “forget” to look up directions. I purposely “forget” to take the normal exit or route home. Instead, I find another way. I’m not sure why, but I find this tactic to be confidence boosting, and powerful. It’s refreshing to prove to myself that I am capable of tackling the unknown. And so are you.
Getting lost is a good thing. It teaches you how to manage yourself in smaller, more frustrating situations, and it teaches patience. Above all, getting lost teaches you to trust yourself.
Next time you’re feeling lost or afraid of something (for myself, these fears are most always financially-related), try to get lost.
To this day, I am still fearful of my financial future. I have made such big strides, and learned so much, but I find myself getting sucked back in to the worries that once kept me awake at night. I seriously wonder if those fears ever go away.
But I’ve gotten sick of letting these fears and worries eat away at me day in and day out. So I’ve come up with my perfect lost. Because being lost should no longer be something to worry about.
Here are 3 easy steps to “getting lost”
Step 1 – Failing to plan is planning to fail perfect
We can’t always do the right things in life. So why not accept that? Try spending one day a week unplanned. For someone like me, who swears by a schedule, ensuring that I keep one open evening is the only way to keep my work-life balance solid.
Step 2 – Get lost, find yourself
Instead of focusing on the fact that you don’t know the exact route you’re taking, focus on the fact that you’re able to see more and learn more about somewhere you have yet to discover. This includes your mind. Allow it to take you to places you have never been before.
Step 3 – Acceptance
Don’t be afraid to admit that you are lost. In directions, in life, and in your finances. It’s normal to go through phases that provide you with an element of muddle.
Getting lost isn’t something to worry about. Getting lost is something we should all embrace.
So what is your perfect lost? Let me know the comments.
